Energy never tasted so good…

We just tried out the new cocoa crunch-flavored  Iron Girl Energy Bar from the makers of Powerbar, and it was surprisingly delicious.

With 160 calories, 3.5g of fat, 28g of carbs and 3g of protein, this is a great pre- or post-workout snack.

We received a big sample of these (as well as the strawberry/cranberry flavor) the other day, so this afternoon, once we figured out that a pre-run pick-me-up was in order, we reached for the box. The Cocoa Crunch bar was crispy, almost like a Rice Krispies treat, and had a yummy, not-fake chocolate taste overall. It also didn’t weigh us down as we did repeats at the track. Big points.

Similar to the absolutely fabulous Athleta Iron Girl Event Series, these bars were designed with healthy, active women in mind. Each serving contains calcium (to support strong bones), iron and folic acid (to help with¬† the production of red blood cells) and B-Vitamin Complex (helps convert food to energy). Oh, and since we all love a bargain, they’re sold for $0.99 (or $4.99 for a six-pack) each at Target. More points.

If you don’t want to go the conventional route and buy these in a store, pick ’em up at an Athleta Iron Girl event instead. They host 5Ks, triathlons, marathons, duathlons and more all over the country. Plus, since their whole mission is to make women feel wonderful, each Iron Girl event goes above and beyond to ensure its participants have a good time. They’ve got a catered post-race breakfast, custom finisher medals, cool performance t-shirts for signing up and a whole bunch of other freebies. We hear that there’s chocolate and jewelry in abundance… and points.
